Wallet or phone?

I went for a walk outside. My wallet was in my left pocket, my phone in the right. Then I wondered, which would I rather lose — my wallet or my phone?

My wallet contains my IDs, bank cards, and cash. My phone has, well, everything.

My wallet is over a year old. It wasn’t expensive so if I lose it, I wouldn’t mope about its cost. The cards would be a different story though. Reporting lost bank cards is a hassle. And replacing IDs? That’s no walk in the park either.

On the other hand, losing my phone would be more costly. But on the upside, its contents are easier to retrieve. Thanks to cloud backups, I could easily access my messages, contacts, mail, photos and files from another device. The only immediate worry would be changing my passwords for security. That’s in case my phone fell into the wrong hands.

It seems like a choice between inconvenience and vulnerability. Losing my wallet means dealing with the frustration of replacing cards. Losing my phone feels like losing something more personal (sentimental). It’s more expensive too.

It’s amazing to think that in today’s world, we’ve come to carry much of our lives in these small, fragile items.

So, which would you rather lose?
